Brackets

We met at ATA around 7:30 PM Wednesday night and got on the road around 8. We drove through the night, stopping once for gas and twice to switch drivers. We pulled into Va Beach around 10 AM local time. Since we could not check in until 4 PM, we met up with AWC and our drivers crashed for a couple hours. AWC was glad to see us as they had not brought a scale. We unloaded the scale and everyone checked weight. The boys hit the boardwalk and checked out the beach. The weather was cool and breezy, but sunny.

AWC had made arrangements to practice at school in Chesapeake Va., about 30 minutes away. They invited us to join them. We called the guys from Buckhorn and they were glad to join us. Jordan, and Toby were a good bit overweight and needed the workout. There were about 40 kids total in the room and it warmed up fast. The coaches put the guys through a pretty good workout.

We left the school about 4:30 and headed back to the VBCC (Virginia Beach Convention Center) for high school weigh-ins. Weigh-ins opened at 6 and took about 45 minutes. Before we went to the hotel to check in we decided to get some food. We really wanted Chinese and found a Mongolian Grill. Aaron did not understand that you loaded your plate and then handed it to the cook to prepare. He almost enjoyed raw vegetables and frozen meat! Full, we headed to the hotel to finally get some real sleep.

Friday morning we were up, out, and at the VBCC by 8. (The middle schoolers slept in and we picked them up just before noon.) We met up with AWC for warm-ups. This would be be our routine for the weekend. Coach Scribs joined us (and brought lunch!) as we watched, coached, and wrestled all day. Friday night dinner was delivery pizza for the guys and Cactus Jack’s for the coaches.

Saturday we all went to the VBCC together as the middle school weigh-ins would open at 11 am. After Warren and Aaron weighed in, we fetched lunch for JP, Dominic, Jailen, and Coach Scribner and then headed to Mary’s Restaurant for a decent meal. Then we went back to the hotel for a little rest before wrestling started for them. We headed back to the VBCC about 3:30 and watched some matches before wrestling got under way at 6 for the middle school division. We wanted sea food for dinner and found a place with crab legs on the buffet. We ate until we hurt. Dominic was picked up by his uncle and got to spend some family time before meeting us back at the hotel.

On Sunday, we wrapped up the middle school wrestling early, so we headed back to the hotel. The coaches got some much need rest in preparation for the drive home. The boys hit the streets to play tourist in Virginia Beach. They seemed to have a good time. We loaded up about 8 o’clock and hit the road for home.
